Our Dojo’s Values

Clarity

Being clear is acknowledging what is simple, present and true.

To be effective we need to be clear about what is actually happening in the world around us, as well as what our purpose is and how we are going about achieving it.

Clarity is a commitment to experiencing and acknowledging reality.

Excellence

Something is excellent when it serves its purpose completely.

An excellent object or action is experienced in positive ways that add something to life.

Excellence is a matter of fulfilling our function in being alive.

Commitment

Commitment is putting intention into action, ensuring something is done with no possibility other than that it will come to pass.

Any obstacle is met and overcome with intelligence and action.

Commitment moves us through obstacles to our goal.

Integrity

Integrity is the state of being whole and undivided with no part opposing another.

When our thoughts, speech and action are all in accord and truly expressive of our whole being we have integrity.

We experience ourselves as whole and real, generating personal power and self-esteem.

Courage

Courage is the ability to do something that frightens you.

To fulfil our commitments we will sometimes be faced by challenges, either externally or internally, that we are unwilling to face.

Courage is doing what is right with awareness and acceptance of the consequences.

Respect

Respect is giving due regard to the beings, objects and situations that we meet in life.

Manners and etiquette must be expressions of a genuine appreciation of the innate value of others. A respectful attitude counteracts selfishness and encourages greater clarity about the qualities of our world and its occupants.

Responsibility

Our power over any condition lies in taking responsibility for it.

Being responsible is putting ourselves at the source of a condition which has arisen, is arising, or which we intend to arise.

Taking responsibility is placing ourselves at the root of the matter and, consequently, what is and what comes to be.
